Our History

Gem-Young Insurance & Financial Planners, is celebrating over 76 years in business. Founded in 1947 by Jim and Mary Louise Gemma Daprile, the Gem Insurance Agency provided liability and fire coverages to Jim Daprile’s life insurance clients. The Gem Insurance name originated from the first three letters of our mother’s last name.

From very humble beginnings Gem Insurance Agency, a family business, grew and, in 1969, acquired Bob and Marge Young’s small Grange agency, another family-owned business. The merger to the Gem‑Young Insurance Agency set out to blend the two, predominately personal lines, books of business.

In 1985, the financial services division was formed to meet the growing needs of our clients. In 1996, the name of the company was officially changed to Gem-Young Insurance & Financial Planners to reflect the fact that we had truly become an insurance and financial services company.
